At yesterday’s Council meeting, Cr Rochelle Halstead was elected as Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council.
“I thank my fellow councillors for their support. I hope to lead a council that respects differences and engages in debate that fosters good decision making focused on the needs of all Bass Coast communities,” Cr Halstead said.
A Bass Coast Councillor since 2020 and Deputy Mayor for two years in the last Council term, Cr Halstead brings extensive experience to the role. Cr Halstead served as a Councillor for Frankston City Council, including a term as Mayor before moving to San Remo permanently eight years ago.
“It is an exciting time for the Council. With a balance of experience and first term councillors, we have enjoyed getting to know each other and the role our communities have entrusted to us. There is a wonderful sense of energy and optimism amongst us.
I am looking forward to working with all councillors on the issues that matter to our communities and advocating for the needs of Bass Coast Shire at every opportunity.”
Bunurong Ward Councillor Brett Tessari was elected Deputy Mayor.
Cr Tessari, a third-generation local and former Mayor, expressed his enthusiasm about his role as Deputy Mayor, representing the Bunurong Ward community and the broader Bass Coast region.
“I am thrilled to take on this role and look forward to continuing to work closely with Cr Halstead, my fellow councillors, and our community. Together, we can address the issues that matter most to us all and continue to build on the pride we share in our beautiful region,” Cr Tessari said.
