Creative Regions funding raises the roof in Moora

  • Shire of Moora awarded more than $70,000 to expand performing arts program
  • Raise the Roof grants program aims to raise the profile of the performing arts in regional centres
  • A total of $310,085 will be allocated to regional performing arts venues in 2018-19
  • A funding injection of more than $70,000 will see the Moora Performing Arts Centre expand their offering to include more performing arts productions for their diverse communities.

Thanks to the Raise the Roof grants program, which forms part of the 2018-19 $4.4 million Creative Regions program, the Shire of Moora will now be able to deliver shows for Aboriginal communities, families and older Western Australians.

The Shire of Moora will also collaborate with local media and develop dinner and theatre deals with local pubs and businesses to encourage community engagement, leverage investment and generate income.

The Creative Regions program is administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries with support from the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program.

Raise the Roof is an invitation-only grants program that supports the expansion of annual performing arts programs delivered by performing arts venues in regional Western Australia.

As noted by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

“As the largest regional town between Perth and Geraldton, the Moora Performing Arts Centre is the creative hub for the people of Moora and the wider community.

“Quality arts and culture experiences are fundamental to the social, economic and cultural flavour of regional communities.

“This funding will allow the venue to become the great regional theatre it deserves to be.”

As noted by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“The Creative Regions program is improving cultural infrastructure and creating opportunities for the development of the arts and cultural industries in regional areas of the State.

“Congratulations to the Shire of Moora for taking the opportunity to raise the profile of its performing arts sector and, at the same time, engage the community and leverage investment that will generate economic outcomes for locals.”

As noted by Agricultural Region MLC Darren West:

“It is fantastic to see Moora Performing Arts Centre receive this funding, which will help bring more performing arts productions to the town.

“The McGowan Government recognises the importance of creative industries to Western Australia.”
