Crescent Head’s representatives have dived right into the job of contributing to plans for the iconic foreshore in the first meetings of the Crescent Head Community Advisory Group.
The third meeting of the Advisory Group is scheduled for Monday 16 September. On the agenda is a review of the strategic priorities established to date, and planning the location of the various potential ‘blocks’ in the foreshore plan, including:
- The Foreshore greenspace
- Carparking
- Boat ramp, access + trailer parking
- Drop off zone
- Play area
- Skate park
- Other green space
- Pathways
- Picnic/gathering spaces
- Pause/view points
At the previous meetings, the group has discussed the wide range of users and uses of the foreshore and carpark, the differing needs and desires across various user groups, parking needs (including time restrictions and enforcement), the need for a drop off area and how other parts of town can potentially be used to provide parking options.
Make sure you take this opportunity to inform yourself and talk to your representatives.
In March 2024 Council resolved to establish the Crescent Head Community Advisory Group to give the Crescent Head community an opportunity to have input into the Crescent Head foreshore. An open expression of interest was conducted, with 30 applications received. Council endorsed 14 representatives. They are Chloe Hobden Welch, Lloyd Mather, Ross Foster, Scott Jansma, Matthew Shannon, Fred Andrews, Josh Dennis, Gail Ryan, Pamela Bryant, Kerry Hudson, Jann Eason, Susie Hughes, Tom Vermeulen, Daniel Williams; and an additional representative from the Kempsey Local Aboriginal Land Council.
The group has already met twice, with information on their discussions posted on the Crescent Head Foreshore Project page .
With the foreshore being such an iconic space and a major drawcard for locals and visitors alike, Council is looking to develop options for the foreshore that balance the need for green space, carparking, and recreation, as well as taking into account the various cultures of Crescent Head. The creation of the Community Advisory Group is seen as a vital part of developing a solution for the future of the foreshore that addresses the different views held within the Crescent Head community.
