Cricket Australia today announced key appointments to the positions of Executive General Manager (EGM) of ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Teams and Executive General Manager of High Performance.
Ben Oliver has been appointed to the position of EGM, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Teams and Drew Ginn OAM to the role of EGM, High Performance.
Ben Oliver, EGM, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Teams
Oliver, a former first class cricketer with Victoria and Tasmania, has served as General Manager of High Performance at the Western Australian Cricket Association for the past seven years. He has previously held senior roles with Cricket Australia, the International Cricket Council and Cricket Victoria.
As EGM, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Teams, Oliver is charged with developing the performance of the men’s and women’s national teams. In keeping with the players’ commitment to make Australians proud, the teams will continue to focus on pursuing the goal of winning and fulfilling the expectation of competing with respect.
His key responsibilities include:
- Australian Men’s and Women’s Teams
- Australia A Men’s and Women’s Teams
- Selection of national teams
Oliver said: “I have devoted most of my adult life to cricket, in both playing and high-performance roles, and I am extremely proud and humbled to continue that association as EGM, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Teams. I look forward to working with Justin Langer and Matthew Mott and their national men’s and women’s teams, as well as national selectors and all those involved in team operations and logistics.”
Drew Ginn OAM, EGM, High Performance
Ginn served as General Manager of High Performance with Cricket Tasmania for the past two years. He is a three-time Olympic rowing gold medallist, a member of the ‘Oarsome Foursome’ and an inductee into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
As EGM, High Performance, Ginn is charged with developing the highest quality domestic competitions and fostering collaboration across other aspects of the high performance system with State and Territory Associations to develop the players, coaches and match officials of the future.
His key responsibilities include:
- Domestic Competitions and Australian Youth Teams
- Player, coach and umpire pathways (including Premier Cricket)
- Talent identification and management
- Sports Science and Sports Medicine
Ginn said: “I am looking forward to joining Cricket Australia and having the opportunity to work more broadly across the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ system. The past two years with Cricket Tasmania have been immensely rewarding. This is a chance to continue the work I have enjoyed locally and to now work closely with many great people involved in leading our domestic, national and youth competitions along with the leaders of our State programs, and those leaders in our Cricket Australia pathway programs, and our sports science and sports medicine areas.”
The appointments of Oliver and Ginn follow Cricket Australia’s announcement in March of a new structure to provide greater focus across various dimensions of the previously named Team Performance department.
Cricket Australia Chief Executive, Kevin Roberts, said Oliver and Ginn bring outstanding skillsets and a wealth of experience to their respective roles.
Roberts said: “The appointments today of Ben Oliver and Drew Ginn are a significant step forward for Australian cricket. Both are world-class high-performance professionals and people of character and integrity. I am excited to have them on board and optimistic about the positive impact they will have on the game at all levels.”
Oliver will be located in Brisbane at the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Cricket Centre, while Ginn will be located in Melbourne, and both will commence on Monday 29 July.
The appointments also allow Belinda Clark AO to resume her position as EGM Community Cricket after the Men’s Cricket World Cup has concluded and the Men’s Ashes squad has been announced, allowing for an appropriate handover.
Clark, a decorated player, captain, coach and administrator, has served as Interim EGM Team Performance since November.
Roberts paid tribute to Clark for her pivotal role in positioning Australian cricket for future success.
Roberts said: “Australian cricket owes Belinda a debt of gratitude for the exceptional job she has performed throughout a challenging time for Australian cricket. She is one of our game’s greatest trailblazers and servants at all levels and we are delighted that she will resume her role as EGM of Community Cricket in late August after handing over to Ben and Drew and having a well earned break. It is a critical role and a job she loves.”
