Criminal Groups Squad detectives have charged a man with firearm offences following an investigation into the activities of Organised Crime Network (OCN) networks and their associations under Strike Force Sugarcane.
Strike Force Sugarcane was established by State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad in July 2021 to investigate the activities of an OCN in the south-west Sydney area.
In September 2022, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at an address in Wolli Creek where they located and seized two prohibited firearms.
Following extensive ongoing inquiries, about 7am yesterday (Thursday 1 June 2023), strike force detectives – with assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad – executed a search warrant at an address on Lucas Avenue in Moorebank where they arrested a 22-year-old man.
During the search, detectives located nine mobile phones, designer jewellery, four Rolex watches, two Hublot watches, approximately 150 grams of cocaine and other items relevant to the supply of prohibited drugs.
The items were seized to undergo further forensic examination.
Investigators will further allege the 22-year-old man has links to a prohibited firearm seized in Wolli Creek last year.
The man was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with participate criminal group contribute criminal, possess unauthorised pistol, and use, supply, acquire or posses defaced firearm.
He was refused bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court today (Friday 2 June 2023).
