Criminal Groups Squad detectives have charged two men over their alleged involvement in prison drug supply under Strike Force Wessex.
Strike Force Wessex was established by State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad in April 2023 to investigate alleged criminal groups involved in drug supply using drug run or ‘dial-a-dealer’ phones across Sydney.
During the investigation, detectives identified a syndicate operating within a correctional centre.
About 12.25pm on Wednesday 14 February 2024, detectives attended a correctional centre in Silverwater, where they arrested a 30-year-old man.
The man was charged with knowingly direct activities of criminal group, knowingly derive material benefit from criminal group and supply prohibited drug »indictable & «commercial quantity.
He was remanded in custody and appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday 15 February 2024.
Further inquiries led detectives to execute a search warrant in Greystanes about 6am today (Tuesday 30 July 2024), where they arrested a 28-year-old man.
The man was taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with take part supply prohibited drug >small &
He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today.
Police will allege in court the older man was directing the supply of buprenorphine within a prison, with assistance from the younger man.
Investigations under Strike Force Wessex continue.
