Culmination of series of drug operations, Gold Coast District

Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch (Northern Investigative Group) have culminated a series of proactive operations this week, aimed at enhancing community safety by disrupting the production and supply of dangerous drugs across the Gold Coast District.

Operation Romeo Detect:

‘Operation Romeo Detect’ is aimed at targeting the supply of dangerous drugs and prohibited items through the postal delivery service.

On Sunday November 10, officers used drug detection dogs and x-ray machines to examine a high volume of packages at the Gold Coast’s mail distribution centre at Bundall.

23 packages were detected to be concealing illegal substances such as; prescription medication, performance and image enhancing drugs and cannabis oil, with a collective estimated street value of approximately $10,800.

Investigations into the source of these packages continue.

Illicit Laboratory Investigation Team action:

Police have charged 2 people as a result of intelligence received from the public.

Yesterday (Tuesday November 12), officers executed a search warrant at an address on Aqua Street, Southport, where they allegedly located 90 grams of methylamphetamine, GHB, cash and drug utensils.

A 41-year-old Southport man has been charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of possessing utensils, possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with a drug offence and contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday November 25.

A 34-year-old Southport woman has been charged with one count each of contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically and possessing utensils.

She was issued a Notice to Appear.

Operation Romeo Concourse:

Police have charged a man as part of ‘Operation Romeo Concourse’; aimed at disrupting the supply of dangerous drugs to the Gold Coast’s nightlife precincts.

On Friday November 8, detectives executed a search warrant at an address on Nerang-Murwillumbah Road at Mount Nathan, where they allegedly located cannabis, steroids, associated drug paraphernalia, knuckledusters and knives.

A 39-year-old Mount Nathan man has been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of possessing controlled drugs, possessing utensils and possessing weapons.

He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday November 25.

Operation Romeo Ankara:

Police have charged three people as part of ‘Operation Romeo Ankara’; aimed at targeting the supply of dangerous drugs within the Gold Coast’s Safe Night Precinct.

As a result of covert strategies, intel was gathered relating to the supply and trafficking of cocaine and MDMA within the Safe Night Precinct, which resulted in detectives executing search warrants at three addresses at Burleigh Waters, Mermaid Waters and Surfers Paradise.

A 36-year-old Burleigh Waters man has been charged with five counts of supplying dangerous drugs, two counts each of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with a drug offence and one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing utensils and contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

He is scheduled to reappear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday January 14.

A 32-year-old Mermaid Waters man has been charged with one count each of supplying dangerous drugs and possessing utensils.

He is scheduled to reappear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday January 14.

A 27-year-old man Surfers Paradise man has been charged with two counts each of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with a drug offence and one count of possessing utensils.

He is scheduled to reappear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday February 20.

Operation Alpo:

Further, in addition to the above recent efforts; ‘Operation Alpo’ was held in Surfers Paradise on Saturday November 2. The operation was aimed at targeting the supply of dangerous drugs in the Safe Night Precinct and involved officers from the Gold Coast Rapid Action and Patrols, Gold Coast District, Public Safety Response Team and Brisbane dog-squad conducting high-visibility from 9.00pm to midnight. This operation resulted in the arrest of 10 people on 11 charges of possessing dangerous drugs (cocaine, MDMA and cannabis).
