Cumberland City Council Embraces Equity and calls for nominations for the Cumberland International Women’s Day Awards

To celebrate International Women’s Day this year, Cumberland City Council will be recognising the outstanding achievements of women in Cumberland City at an International Women’s Day Awards Ceremony which will be held on 8 March 2023 at the Holroyd Centre in Merrylands.

Consistent with this year’s theme “#EmbraceEquity”, these awards are an opportunity for the community to reflect on the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women in the Cumberland Local Government Area and nominate them for an award.

Cumberland City Mayor Lisa Lake said that these awards were an opportunity to show appreciation for the contributions women make to our community.

“Cumberland City Council is proud to be to be presenting an award ceremony on International Women’s Day to honour women and organisations who embrace equity and work to break bias in the Cumberland area,” she said.

“Women make up almost half of the Cumberland population and many of their achievements go unnoticed, so I am very excited to be able to celebrate them in any way we can.”

Residents are encouraged to nominate an outstanding individual or organisation in Cumberland City in one of the 6 categories:

  • Youth Project / Young Female Ambassador (12 – 25 years)
  • Access and Disability Award
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Achievement
  • Community Event Award
  • Multicultural Leadership
  • Local Businesswoman of the Year

Nominations are now open and will close on Wednesday 22 February
