The Curtin courses are in line with the Federal Government’s Higher Education Relief Package and are focused on the priority fields of education, health, science, architecture and construction.

Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the courses provide an affordable and timely opportunity for anyone whose work has been affected by COVID-19, to add to their skill base.

“Curtin is delighted to provide this opportunity for people to improve their skills, education and employability through completing a six-month online course in a range of subjects from Health Science to Construction Management,” Professor Terry said.

“Curtin already has an outstanding reputation as a leader in providing high quality online courses through Open Universities Australia (OUA), and there really has never been a better time to begin learning something new, whether that’s as a pathway to a degree or as a post-graduate student.

“There will be two types of Curtin short courses available: Graduate Certificates with some prerequisites and Undergraduate Certificates which require no prior learning.”

Four of the new courses on offer will earn students an Undergraduate Certificate that will provide a pathway towards an undergraduate degree at Curtin. These include Teaching Education Studies, Secondary Teaching Education Studies, Construction Management and Architecture. Applicants with a degree or significant work experience, will be able to apply for a Graduate Certificate in Education Studies, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Corrosion Engineering, Health Psychology, and Forensic Psychology.

The offerings are subsidised by the Federal Government and available at a discounted cost starting at $1250. Students may also be able to apply for a HECS-HELP loan, which is repayable only when earnings reach a certain threshold.
