The Marshall Liberal Government has introduced new procurement guidelines to create more employment and training opportunities for young South Australians.
Minister for Industry and Skills, David Pisoni has announced the Skilling South Australia Procurement Guideline is replacing the Workforce Participation in Government Construction Procurement Policy.
“In addition to cutting unnecessary red tape for employers, the new guideline will ensure that apprentices and trainees account for 15 percent of labour hours, as a recommended requirement for projects over $50 million,” he said.
“We are strongly focussed on creating an additional 20,800 apprenticeships and traineeships over the next four years under our $203 million Skilling South Australia initiative.
“The new procurement guideline underpins our agenda to rebuild a skilled workforce.”
Minister Pisoni said as well as creating more jobs and providing training opportunities for South Australians, the Skilling South Australia Procurement Guideline significantly reduces red tape for industry and employers.
South Australia’s Industry Advocate, Ian Nightingale said the reduction of red tape through the new procurement guideline is very much welcomed by industry.
“South Australian business understands the importance of industry participation and the vital role it has in creating an incentive to support local jobs,” he said.
“The reforms will also focus on having a skilled future workforce ready to support growth and diversification in the state’s industry sectors.”
Mr Nightingale said these changes will make it easier for business tendering for large projects.
“These changes combined with the commitments made by business in the Industry Participation Plans will bring it together with measurable outcomes,” he said.
