The DA Tracker on Byron Shire Council’s website will be offline this week, after technical problems were identified late last week.
Cyber NSW, the State Government authority for cyber security, and the developer of the DA Tracker platform, both advised Council’s IT team on Friday afternoon of concerns about the immediate security of the platform.
Byron Shire Council is one of a number of local governments in Australia and New Zealand that use the DA Tracker technology.
The DA Tracker was taken offline on Friday afternoon and latest advice from developer is that it will remain offline until early next week.
This problem with DA Tracker is not related to an incident at the end of April, when human error resulted in some internal documents containing personal information being made viewable on Byron Shire Council’s DA Tracker portal.
“There has been no data breach behind this current problem with DA Tracker,” Colin Baker, Council’s Manager Business Systems and Technology, said.
“This latest incident relates directly to the DA Tracker platform that is used by some councils and rather than risk any security breaches a decision was made to take it offline until it’s fixed by the developer,” he said.
Development applications that are on exhibition will be re-exhibited once the DA Tracker issue has been resolved.
