At least 18 CFA crews helped bring a Dandenong factory fire under control this morning.
CFA fire received reports of fire at 5:56am describing heavy black smoke and flames showing in Hilton St Dandenong.
When crews arrived on-scene at 6:02am they found a factory 60M X 20M well alight. The factory is believed to have housed a
trimming/upholstery business.
A community warning has been published for smoke in the area and for people to be aware.
The building will be a total loss and minor damage has occurred to a property on one side.
Senior Station Officer Hill is the Incident Controller and there are around 18 fire vehicles in attendance including Dandenong Ladder Platform and an MFB Platform from Oakleigh delivering water from above.
Specialist vehicles including Scoresby Hoselayer and Frankston Breathing Apparatus van are also assisting including several trucks and crews from the MFB.
The incident was declared under control at 7:58am but is expected to continue smoking until at least midday.
Surrounding roads were blocked in the early stages but most roads in the area are now open with the exception of Hilton St.
Fire Investigations crews are on-scene and they are awaiting an excavator to clear the area and make walls stable.
The cause of the fire has not been established at this stage.
