A 32-year-old Norville man will face court for a string of alleged dangerous driving offences following an incident with a black Commodore at Avocca yesterday (December 19).
Police will allege the car was reported stolen from a Moore Park Beach address on December 14.
The black Commodore was involved in incidents at Crofton Street, at Scotland Street later that day; on December 15 at Lester Street, Bundaberg; and on December 18 at the Bruce Highway, Gin Gin. On each occasion the driver allegedly evaded police interception, driving dangerously to avoid capture.
Police will allege, at about 12:20pm police approached the black Commodore as a passenger was pumping fuel into it at a service station on Takalvan Street, whilst surrounding it with police cars.
Officers then attempted to apprehend the 32-year-old man in the driver’s seat who reversed the Commodore into a police car before driving forward, running over the leg of one officer. Another officer was allegedly assaulted whilst taking the driver into custody.
Police will also allege the 32-year-old man was in possession of methylamphetamine when captured.
The 44-year-old officer was transported to Bundaberg Base Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The 32-year-old man was charged with stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of serious assault police, three counts each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and evade police, five counts of disqualified driving, and seven counts of breach of bail. The man is due to face the Bundaberg Magistrates Court later today.
