Police have charged a man with dangerous driving and stealing offences after he failed to stop for police at the Gold Coast overnight.
It will be alleged at 10.40pm police observed a stolen Hyundai on Edmund Rice Drive at Southport. Police activated lights and siren on Nerang Road however the vehicle accelerated away.
The vehicle was tracked by Polair as it travelled at high speed on the Smith Street Motorway and north on the M1 before taking the Pacific Pines exit.
Police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on Binstead Way and the vehicle continued driving for a short while before coming to a stop near the supermarket. The driver, who was the only occupant, fled from the vehicle before and located by a dog squad team in a nearby carpark.
A 38-year-old Upper Coomera man has been charged with two counts of enter premises, one count each of dangerous driving, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing (number plates), fail to stop vehicle, possession of a weapon (handgun), possession of explosive (ammunition), possession of drug utensils (pipe and scales) and two counts of possession of dangerous drugs (methylamphetamine and cannabis).
He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
It will be further alleged the Hyundai Venue was stolen from a business in Kingston Drive, Arundel on February 13.
