A 42-year-old man has been charged with nine offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and assault police, following an incident in the Ipswich area on Saturday March 5.
Goodna police were patrolling on the Ipswich Motorway at approximately 10.30pm when it’s alleged a white Toyota Soarer drove by at high speed. POLAIR, which was already in the area, began tracking the vehicle as it allegedly reached speeds of approximately 30km per hour over speed limits.
Police deployed a tyre deflation device on Augusta Parkway at Augustine Heights, successfully deflating several of the vehicle’s tyres.
It’s alleged the Toyota continued at high speed, driving dangerously on the wrong side of the road and through red lights causing several motorists to take evasive action.
The vehicle was then abandoned on Branxton Court, Redbank Plains and the male driver allegedly ran from the scene.
Officers including dog squad attended, tracking the man to Penrose Circuit where it is alleged he attempted to hide near the driveway of a home before climbing on top of a vehicle in the driveway.
Police will allege he then threatened officers, claiming he had a weapon.
It’s alleged the man further refused to comply with police directions, and as a result a taser was successfully deployed, causing the man to fall to the ground where he was taken into custody.
During the course of the arrest, the man sustained a dog bite which did not cause serious injury.
The 42-year-old Regency Downs man was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, serious assault police officer whilst pretending to be armed with a weapon, vehicles used on roads must be registered, drive uninsured vehicle, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence, using vehicle for which a number plate attached recorded as stolen, false registration plates, obstruct police officer and breach of bail condition.
The 42-year-old man appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday March 7 where he was remanded in custody. His matter is expected to be next before the court on March 14.
