Dangerous surf conditions this week

Kiama Council

Lifeguard on watch on tower

Kiama Council has advised people to take extra care this week when using our beaches, rockpools and waterways.

With heavy surf, strong currents and unusually high tides expected, Council advises people should err on the side of caution before diving in, swim between the flags and respect beach and rockpool closures.

“Please pay attention to any warning signs at our beaches, waterways and rockpools. It’s safest to always swim between the flags and if a normally patrolled beach is ‘closed’ due to dangerous conditions, it’s best not to swim at that time,” said Kiama CEO Jane Stroud.

“Our highly trained lifeguards do a great job and their priority is everyone’s safety and enjoyment, in that order. Please respect their expertise and follow any instructions and advice they give.”

Council is also advising people not to use our rock pools (ocean pools) this week due to the dangerous surf conditions.

“We are so lucky in Kiama LGA to have an abundance of stunning coastline, beautiful beaches and waterways that everyone can enjoy. Please heed the advice and stay safe this summer,” said Ms Stroud.
