Darwinites to benefit from local AUSLAN interpreting service

Darwin City Council

Darwinites who are deaf or have hearing impairments now have improved access to important community information and can enjoy a more inclusive experience in civic life with the appointment of a Territory-based Auslan interpreter.

Through funding from the Northern Territory Government, Deaf Connect has been able to appoint ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) accredited interpreter, Paula Bun, for a period of three years.

Paula provided Auslan services at last week’s Jingili Water Gardens ‘All Abilities Play Space’ launch – the first public event where interpreting services were provided for the hearing impaired by City of Darwin.

This Auslan interpreting service is available for a range of events, including announcements, forums, meeting bookings, education sessions, seminars and presentations.

City of Darwin’s Community Development Office has been working with Paula for meetings, online and in-person since her appointment at the beginning of 2022, and all Council staff are encouraged to make the most of these services.

To book, head to ‘s website. You will need to create an online profile for your department to book.
