Local artists are invited to enter the Surf Coast Community Arts Calendar competition, which will see 13 pieces selected to feature in the popular publication.

Entries for the competition open Monday 22 August, with Surf Coast Shire residents or ratepayers invited to submit their artwork.

All entries will be on display at the Surf Coast Community Arts Calendar Competition exhibition, held at Anglesea Art Space from 14 October to 30 October. Judges will select their 12 favourite works across the three categories – Open, Installed Sculptural, and Child/Youth – while a people’s choice vote will determine the piece that will be on the cover.

Surf Coast Shire Mayor Libby Stapleton encouraged people to submit a piece in the competition.

“The annual competition offers an invaluable opportunity for local artists to gain incredible exposure, as the calendar is shared far and wide,” Cr Stapleton said.

“From homes to cafes to workplaces – it’s always a thrill to see the calendar hanging at so many different locations, and I’m sure it’s an even bigger thrill for the artists to see their own work feature in such a widely-distributed publication.”

Cr Stapleton said the opportunity to be part of an exhibition was a huge perk of entering the competition.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Anglesea Art Space adorned with the region’s diverse creative talent for the exhibition, with all entries to be showcased,” she said.

“On the back of a successful Surf Coast Arts Trail, the calendar competition and the exhibition are helping us towards our goal to acknowledge the value of arts and creativity, and to nurture their growth.”
