Day nine of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign (phase 2), the last day of 2018, two more lives lost in separate incidents on Queensland roads takes the Queensland total to 246.
There were a total of 61 drivers charged with drink driving, six of these were over three times the legal limit and one who was more than five times the legal limit.
The six returned readings of 0.267% at Wujal Wugal, 0.190% at Raceview, 0.197% at Oonooba, 0.191% at Pioneer, 0.188% at Mareeba and 0.159% also at Mareeba.
Seventy-eight drivers also returned positive roadside drug testing results.
Twnety-nine were injured in twenty-five traffic crashes across the state on day nine with police also detecting more than 2,800 speeding motorists including one driver travelling 110kms / 60km zone on Gympie Road, Kedron.
Police detected 26 seat-belt offences and a further twenty-five drivers were caught out using their mobile phones in a total of nine hundred traffic infringement notices issued yesterday.
Police continue to target high risk road users as 2019 begins, anywhere, anytime.
Remember – the only way to get onto the ‘fatal five’ list is to be a driving behaviour that is known to kill. SPEED – kills; FATIGUE – kills; IMPAIRED DRIVING – kills; FAIL TO WEAR SEATBELT – kills; DISTRACTION/INATTENTION – kills.
Phase 2 of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign continues up to and including January 3.
