Deakin launches subsidised short courses targeting growth sectors

Deakin University is helping people to progress or start a career in industries expected to thrive on the road out of the COVID-19 pandemic, with six heavily subsidised online ‘short courses’ – with more coming soon.

The premium Deakin courses on offer are supported by the Federal Government as part of its Higher Education Relief Package, in response to the workforce and economic impacts of the pandemic.

Successful students will receive a Graduate Certificate after passing course requirements that cover the high-growth sectors of information technology, architecture and building, education and health.

All are postgraduate courses, giving successful students certainty they will receive Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) recognition at Level 8 and have an accredited path to a masters if they choose to continue.

The six courses commence in July 2020 and must be completed no later than early February 2021. The currently scheduled courses are: , , , , , and .

Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin said the premium short courses ensure eligible learners can build stronger job security in already booming sectors and areas of national priority, with minimal impact on their capacity to pay and without compromising Deakin’s renowned standards for quality education.

“We welcome this Federal Government initiative designed to assist people who are facing tough times and want to embrace an opportunity to develop new skills using Deakin’s renowned online courses,” Professor Martin said.
