Death in custody after siege at Stretton, QLD

A man has died as a result of injuries sustained during the police response to a siege situation at Stretton earlier this evening (December 6).

About 1.20pm, police were called to a disturbance at a business premises on Compton Road involving an armed man.

Specialist police, including negotiators, attended to assist with the response.

Police evacuated nearby businesses and closed Compton Road in both directions to ensure the safety of the public.

Five members of the public remained locked inside the premises in a separate room to the man.

It will be alleged about 7.30pm, the man raised his firearm at police and was shot.

The 48-year-old Woodridge man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition however he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The five members of the public were assessed by Queensland Ambulance Service Personnel and provided statements to police.

No one else was injured as a result of the incident. The Ethical Standards Command is investigating with the assistance of the Crime and Corruption Commission.
