AUSTRALIAN Defence Force (ADF) members and their families have been welcomed to new posting locations across the country, with a series of events over the weekend including Welcome to Katherine and Welcome to HMAS Cerberus over the weekend.
The Minister for Veterans and Defence Personnel, Darren Chester said Defence’s Welcome events are a great opportunity for our military families to meet each other and get to know their local area, especially if they have recently posted to a new location.
“These events provide ADF families with information to help them settle into their community, as well as a host of activities for kids of all ages,” Mr Chester said.
Hosted by Defence Community Organisation, more than 20 Welcome events will showcase local community and government services, and provide information about education, recreation and support services available in the local area.
“Defence Community Organisation offers a range of programs and services to help ADF members and their families manage the challenges and opportunities of military life,” Mr Chester said.
“Each of the local Defence Community Organisation offices across Australia works with local community groups and support services to support ADF families and build a strong, connected and resilient Defence community.”
“Whether they’re single or have posted with their families, ADF members are welcome to come along with their parents, partner, siblings or kids.”
The program of Welcome events runs for almost six weeks throughout February and early March on or near Defence locations across Australia.
