Delivering Better Boating To Lake Burrumbeet

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is delivering better access to a day on the water in western Victoria with boat ramp upgrades at Lake Burrumbeet.

As part of the Victorian Recreational Boating Action Plan 2022-23, upgrades at Lake Burrumbeet boat ramp will include improving facilities at the south ramp, located on Canico Drive.

Minister for Fishing and Boating Sonya Kilkenny visited Lake Burrumbeet today where upgrades will be funded from boaters’ registration and licence fees through the $42 million Better Boating Fund.

The planned upgrade includes replacing the existing ramp with two concrete lanes with a steeper gradient in line with current standards. Further investigations will include the addition of a new pontoon to allow boats to be tied up temporarily.

The lake is popular among fishers targeting stocked trout as well as skiers and families making memories in the great outdoors by towing a donut or simply going for a cruise.

Better Boating Victoria also provided City of Ballarat with a $79,338 grant from the Boating Safety Facilities Program 2020/21 to install new buoys and mark the waterway hazards on Lake Burrumbeet.

The access improvements at Lake Burrumbeet will complement fish stocking – providing increased opportunities for families wetting a line as part of the $35 million Go Fishing Victoria Plan.

The Labor Government today stocked 1,500 yearling rainbow trout into Lake Burrumbeet, adding to the 35,300 rainbows and 14,000 brown trout released since 2017. A combined 3,200 brown and rainbow trout were also stocked into Lake Wendouree, adding to more than 132,000 trout stocked in the past five years.

As stated by Minister for Fishing and Boating Sonya Kilkenny

“We’re continuing our investment in recreational boating across the state – improving safety and enhancing the boating experience across Victoria.”

As stated by Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford
