Sarah Courtney,Minister for Strategic Growth
The Tasmanian Liberal Government has a Plan to create more jobs, bolster confidence and invest in our community, and strategic growth projects like the Glenorchy Jobs Hub will provide a critical opportunity to assist Tasmania’s social and economic recovery from COVID-19.
I’m pleased to announce that the Glenorchy City Council has commenced phase one of the project, with key focus areas being recruitment of a Workforce Development Coordinator, the development of a Glenorchy City Workforce Plan and the establishment of a local community owned and led steering committee to guide the development of a detailed action plan and phase two of the project.
Ensuring the project has the right leadership will be critical for its success and I am pleased to hear that the Council’s Expression of Interest process calling for applications from the community stakeholders who believe they can make a valuable contribution received strong interest from a broad range of applicants. We know from similar projects that community ownership and leadership will be critical to the success of this project so this bodes well for the future of the Hub.
The 2020-21 State Budget provides a total investment of $1.3 million over two years to the Glenorchy Jobs Hub Project to support activities that assist locals to capitalise on employment opportunities as well as the needs of local businesses and industry.
The Jobs Hub will provide significant opportunities for Glenorchy residents and businesses and the potential to support positive change in the region through this project is really exciting.
