The Rockliff Liberal Government is building the health system Tasmanians need and deserve, supporting our healthcare workers and delivering better care for patients.
Minister for Health, Guy Barnett said the Government is investing $8.3 million every single day into health.
“The Rockliff Liberal Government is also delivering on its long-term plan to deliver critical health infrastructure across the State,” Minister Barnett said.
“We have been turbocharging the Tasmanian economy with our record infrastructure agenda, including the completed $689 million redevelopment of the Royal Hobart Hospital.
“By investing in game-changing infrastructure we are future-proofing our healthcare facilities for generations to come.
“This includes exciting projects like the redevelopment of the Launceston General Hospital which is well underway.
“Many important upgrades have already been delivered as part of this 10-year project, including new Women’s and Children’s Precinct is now open, a 38-bed medical ward open, nine negative pressure rooms completed.”
“We know how important access to contemporary healthcare facilities is for our regional communities and that is why we are investing $41 million to redevelop the Mersey Community Hospital Outpatients Clinics and Operating Theatres so that more Tasmanians can receive the care they need, closer to home.
“Our Government is also investing $40 million to deliver a new Mental Health precinct at the North West Regional Hospital.”
The $5.8 million Ante-natal clinic at the North West Regional Hospital was completed in August 2022, bringing together a range of antenatal services into one location so ta woman’s outpatient journey for maternity is delivered at the same place.
“I had the pleasure of opening the Rural Medical Workforce Centre last week following the completion of infrastructure works,” Minister Barnett said.
“The workforce centre is a collaboration between the Tasmanian Liberal Government and University of Tasmania to support the training, recruitment and retention of doctors and health professionals in the north-west.”
By delivering new and upgraded health infrastructure, our Government is sticking to our long-term plan and doing what matters for Tasmanians, while also keeping our economy strong and creating jobs.
