The Andrews Labor Government is making it easier for passengers on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines to plan their journeys with changes to train timetables.
The changes will see some services on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines departing slightly earlier or later for a more reliable journey, as more people choose to catch public transport.
Passengers on the Geelong line will also have an extra Saturday morning service added to the timetable. To make room for this, the existing Warrnambool service will run express from Geelong to Footscray.
The Labor Government is also increasing bus services on the Bellarine Peninsula with extra weekend services for routes 55, 56, 60 and 61 to Geelong Station.
Southern Cross Station will also open earlier on Sunday mornings, allowing people, including shift workers who keep our city running, to transfer more easily between Night Network, metro and regional services to get home sooner.
The earlier opening will allow passengers on the Werribee, Sunbury, Craigieburn and Upfield lines to use the station. Previously trains on these lines ran express through to Flinders St early on Sunday mornings.
These timetable changes follow the announcement that passengers in the growing Melton area will have access to 285 weekly services and additional peak train services and new bus routes as the Labor Government delivers on its promise to open Cobblebank station.
As part of the Labor Government’s plan to improve services across the network, two new level access tram stops will be built along William Street to make it safer and easier for people to catch the tram.
The new platform stops will keep passengers and cars separate and improve platform space. The works also include better access for people with accessibility needs by providing a level interchange with Flagstaff Station and connections to the hospital and university precinct in Parkville.
The new tram stops come as the Labor Government tests Melbourne’s largest and newest fully accessible E-Class trams on Route 58, which runs along William Street.
These changes are part of the Labor Government’s more than $70 billion investment in building the infrastructure we need for the future and investment in new trains and trams and supporting infrastructure to transform Victoria’s public transport network.
Timetables will be available at ptv.vic.gov.au from the end of the week with the changes to take effect in early December.
As stated by Minister for Public Transport Melissa Horne
“The changes to the timetable will give people more options to get where they’re going and help them plan their journey with confidence.”
“Many Victorians work shift work to keep our city and state running while most of us sleep – we’re making it easier for them to get home by opening Southern Cross Station earlier.”
