Keeping Tasmanians safe on our roads is a priority for the Hodgman majority Liberal Government and we are delivering on our commitment of jointly investing with the Morrison Government $100 million into upgrading the Bass Highway.
Tenders for safety upgrades on the Bass Highway at Boat Harbour have opened today, and will include improved turning facilities at adjoining roads, Boat Harbour Primary School and the General Store.
The works include the installation of a median turning lane to shelter turning traffic, realignment and widening of the highway, junction improvements at Boat Harbour Primary School, Dobsons Lane and Fists Lane, and an additional pull-over area next to the shop.
The local North West community has been involved in the Boat Harbour project since its inception and feedback received during stakeholder consultation helped inform the project design.
The Bass Highway serves as an important freight and passenger route, carrying significant numbers of heavy vehicles, as well as visitor and local traffic, and the Government is committed to improving safety and traffic flow on this section of the highway.
The Boat Harbour upgrades will begin later this year, with completion expected in mid-2020.
