Delivering Our Commitment To Our Volunteer Marine Rescue Units

Liberal Tasmania
  • Nic Street Minister for Housing and Construction, Minister for Local Government, Minister for Sport and Recreation, Minister for Stadia and Events, Member for Franklin
  • With about 5,000 kilometres of coastline, keeping Tasmanians and visitors safe on the water is a big job.

The role that each Volunteer Marine Rescue unit plays around the state is valued by all of Tasmania’s 62,000 licensed recreational boat users.

That’s why, during the 2021 State Election we committed $1 million over four years towards marine rescue vehicles, trailers and vessels.

While delivering this commitment has proved more difficult than anticipated, we remain absolutely committed to providing this support to the seven VMR units around the state: St Helens; Freycinet; Tamar; Kingborough; Ulverstone; Wynyard and Dodges Ferry (Sea Rescue Tasmania).

A re-elected majority Rockliff Liberal Government will deliver this support within 30 days of forming government, to urgently ensure our VMR units are able to secure the vehicles, trailers and vessels they need to deliver the services the Tasmanian boating community rely upon.

We will ensure that this vital support that we committed to, is delivered.
