Are you concerned about your memory or worried that someone you know may have dementia? Dementia Australia is offering education sessions in Darwin this July and August.
It is estimated there are more than 750 people living with all forms of dementia in Darwin. Without a medical breakthrough this number is expected to increase to approximately 1,640 people living with dementia by 2054.
The Dementia Australia sessions are an opportunity for people living with dementia, their carers, family, and friends to attend free education to better understand dementia and to discuss the support and services Dementia Australia can provide. Please note, bookings are essential.
Understanding dementia
This session provides an introduction to dementia including an overview of different types of dementia, diagnosis, planning ahead and how to support someone living with dementia.

Creating a Dementia-Friendly ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾
This course provides information about dementia and the likely impact of the symptoms on a person’s perception of, and ability to successfully navigate their home environment.
Friday 2 August, 10am-11:30am
Health and Hygiene at ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾
This session provides an introduction to a range of health and hygiene issues that may present in caring for a person with dementia. It covers topics including nutrition, showering, dressing, oral health, falls and sleep.
Wednesday 7 August, 5:00pm-7:30pm
Understanding Changes in Behaviour
This session provides an introduction to dementia and changes to the brain, effects on behaviour and the impacts of changed behaviour. It will introduce problem solving models, including strategies to minimise and respond to changed behaviour.
