Bayside Council has voted to continue investigating the demerger process following a decision at last night’s Council Meeting.
Council resolved at its March meeting to undertake a desktop business case, examining the potential for Bayside to de-merge and for the two former councils, Rockdale and Botany, to be re-established.
The in-house financial analysis report presented at the Council Meeting on Wednesday 22 May was completed in a very short space of time but presented a forecast for the two councils post demerger.
After some consideration Council called for another report to be presented to the June Corporate Committee Meeting.
This report will look at the legal process to demerger and include a suggested community engagement program.
Council is working to ensure all residents are informed of the issues surrounding de-amalgamation, and offered the opportunity to provide feedback before any final decision is made.
