Construction on new access ramps, paths and coastal erosion works has been completed at Dendy Street Beach.
Council is awaiting the outcome of an application to Heritage Victoria for a permit for the construction of the proposed Dendy Street Beach Pavilion and associated masterplan works.
As the Dendy Street Beach heritage precinct is listed on the Victorian heritage register, any works must be approved by Heritage Victoria. The advertising period for the permit has concluded and the submission is being assessed by Heritage Victoria.
Planning Application
The VCAT hearing on objections to the Dendy Street Beach Pavilion planning permit is listed for October 2019.
Proposed works include the construction of the new pavilion and forecourt area as well as updating beach access, landscaping, alterations to the existing carpark and stormwater works.
Council continues to work with the EPA in relation to contaminated soil found on site and is complying with all obligations required by the EPA.
Draft Marine and Coastal Policy
Council is making a submission to the State government’s Draft Marine and Coastal Policy released last week. The draft Policy outlines how the marine and coastal environment should be planned and managed into the future.
Aspects of the draft policy have attracted recent media coverage, in particular, references to non coastal dependent structures on Crown Land and the impact on the Dendy Street Beach bathing boxes.
The Dendy Street Beach bathing boxes are not on Crown Land. This area is owned by Council so is managed by Council.
