Following a review of the current dental records guidelines, which began in November 2019 and , the Dental Board of Australia has announced they will be retired in favour of the the guidance contained in the existing Code of conduct.
The Board has determined that the guidelines on dental records contained in the provide “adequate guidance about health record management” since the Code sets out the standards and regulatory requirements for dental practitioners in all areas of their practice.
This means that the Code, which is positioned as one of the Board’s regulatory tools, will become the main point of guidance for dental practitioners.
To help dentists and other registered dental practitioners to fully understand their regulatory obligations, the Board has developed a fact sheet and what it terms a “self-reflective tool”, both of which will be published in the second half of 2020 prior to the existing records guidelines being retired.
