Derby on display again at Enduro MTB World Series

Sarah Courtney,Liberal Member for Bass

The North East’s Mountain Biking capital of Derby is the place to be again this weekend with the town hosting a round of the Enduro MTB World Series.

The Hodgman Liberal Government, through Events Tasmania, committed $215,000 towards staging a round of the Asia-Pacific Continental Enduro Series in November 2018 and 2020, along with today’s round of the Enduro World Series.

Derby is truly a world-class destination for mountain biking, and the township has seen the enormously successful Enduro World Series held twice in the town, the first in April 2017, and now in March 2019.

Mountain biking has provided Derby with new and exciting tourism opportunities in the town.

The Enduro World Series has put Derby at the centre of the world mountain biking stage, and the trails attract more than 25,000 cyclists annually, generating around $30 million to the Tasmanian economy.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has been working hard to bring more visitors to our State, to create jobs, and grow the economy.

This Government has been the strongest supporter of cycling tourism with initiatives such as the $6 million Cycling Tourism Fund, which includes investments in Derby and a trail network throughout the State.

I congratulate the North East community for putting Derby on the world stage through their support of these world class trails and events, such as the EWS.
