Police investigating allegations of historical child sex abuse at an Inner West boys home are appealing for potential witnesses and further victims.
In 2014, detectives from Leichhardt Police Area Command commenced an investigation into complaints relating to Royleston Boys Depot at Glebe, which were referred by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
Royleston operated as temporary dormitory-style accommodation for male wards of the state, who were aged between six and 18.
Detectives are currently focusing on alleged sexual and indecent assaults that are reported to have occurred at the home between July 1961 and July 1962.
While investigators have already spoken with a number of witnesses, they are seeking further information from residents of the home – particularly those who were aged between eight and 14 during this time period to come forward.
Further, they believe there may be other victims of abuse, who have not yet reported the incidents to police.
Given the circumstances, it is understood that many victims and witness have previously been reluctant to come forward, but detectives would like to remind the community that all reports will be treated in strict confidence and additional support services can be made available.
