Developing and touring arts exhibitions in regions

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Eleven cultural projects will share in $1.4 million from the Morrison Government’s Visions of Australia regional exhibition touring program, to develop and tour arts and cultural exhibitions across Australia.

Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said this support will help reinvigorate the creative and cultural sector in regional communities as Australia recovers from the impacts of COVID-19.

“It is encouraging to see Australian arts and cultural organisations continuing to develop and tour high-quality and engaging exhibitions despite the challenges faced in recent years. The vital support provided by the Visions of Australia program will allow these exhibitions to reach audiences around Australia and increase the diversity of artistic and cultural material available to the regions,” Minister Fletcher said.

“The Visions program will support the touring of seven exhibitions reaching venues in every state and territory, including 42 regional venues and three remote venues, which will help reignite the sector by showcasing this nation’s talent.”

These exhibitions encompass a broad range of themes, including:

  • A celebration of the 60th anniversary of The Journal of Australian Ceramics through works by 22 Australian contemporary ceramic artists
  • A tour extension of the popular Cleverman exhibition – which showcases the Indigenous superhero television series
  • The new tour of an immersive digital installation called Walking through a Songline based on the National Museum of Australia’s highly successful Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters exhibition.

Funding will also be provided for 4 development projects, including for the South Australian Museum to develop the Trade Routes exhibition, which explores Aboriginal trading routes of communities in the Kimberley and the importance of pearl shells in those communities, and HOTA (Home of the Arts) at the Gold Coast to develop the Lost in Palm Springs exhibition, which will examine mid-century modern architecture and links between Australia and Palm Springs.
