Development application submitted for Burnie Ambulance Station

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Health

The Department of Health has today submitted an application to the Burnie City Council to develop a new ambulance superstation for the Burnie and North-West communities.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is investing an extra $4.3 million, announced in the 2021-22 Tasmanian Budget for the construction of this superstation. This is in addition to the $6 million already committed to the project, and will ensure we can build state-of-the-art facilities for our dedicated paramedics.

Following a comprehensive site analysis, the preferred location for the new station is Department-owned land on the North West Regional Hospital site on Brickport Road, Park Grove.

The new station will house and deploy up to 20 vehicles by 2035 to meet the future needs of Tasmanians. Importantly, this new space will allow for a growing paramedic workforce to service the region and provide the facilities to deliver the best possible emergency care into the future.

An extensive review was conducted to identify the operational capacity and requirements and assess the suitability of the location for the new station.

Comprehensive consultation with key stakeholders and nearby residents on the design and operational functionality has also taken place, and feedback has been carefully considered by the Department.
