Nillumbik Shire Council welcomes the announcement today by the Federal Labor Party, that if successful in the 21 May election, it would fund a major upgrade of the Diamond Creek Outdoor Pool.

McEwen MP Rob Mitchell today pledged $1.5 million to upgrade the pool should Labor be elected to Government.

The funding would enable a range of critical works, including improvements to accessibility, fence replacement, installation of energy efficient plant equipment and re-tiling and re-sealing of the pool itself.

Nillumbik Mayor Frances Eyre welcomed the announcement, saying it meant much-needed improvements.

“The Diamond Creek Outdoor Pool is a much-loved community asset – to those who live in Diamond Creek and beyond – but it is sorely in need of an upgrade, so we welcome this commitment,” Cr Eyre said.

“Council has been advocating strongly for funding support to carry out this much-needed upgrade and on behalf of Council I would like to thank the Member for McEwen for this announcement.

“I would also like to make special mention of Ellis Ward Councillor Peter Perkins who has been tireless in his advocacy on this issue.

Cr Eyre said Council would continue to advocate to anyone aspiring to political office at the coming election in its determination to obtain the necessary funding for these upgrade works.

“Council will continue to advocate to all sides of politics to ensure these works can proceed. They are a priority within a broader planning work around community and recreational facilities in Diamond Creek to meet community needs.”

The Diamond Creek Outdoor Pool was built in 1989 and since then has become one of the most loved and popular facilities in the Shire.
