Digital Reskilling for Ukrainian Women Evacuees in Poland Programme Launched at Warsaw Ceremony

  • UNITAR Division for Prosperity launched its new training programme “” on 16 October 2023 at an event in Warsaw.
  • Guests included government officials, programme partners, academic institutions, NGOs and select participants of the new training.
  • The training programme will run from October 2023 to March 2024. Close to 1000 Ukrainian women evacuees in Poland have applied.
  • This is the UNITAR Division for Prosperity’s first training programme for Ukrainian evacuees.

26 October 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR’s launched its training programme “” on 16 October 2023 at an event in Warsaw. Guests included government officials, programme partners, academic institutions, and NGOs, as well as several participants of the new training programme.

Ms Mihoko Kumamoto, Director of the UNITAR Division for Prosperity, opened the event by expressing appreciation to the guests and partners for their support in making this training programme possible.

Distinguished guests Mr Akio Miyajima, Ambassador of Japan to Poland, and Mr Vasyl Zvarich, Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, commended those who made the new digital reskilling programme possible and stressed the importance of such programmes for not only the evacuees and their livelihoods but for rebuilding countries in conflict.

A training participant also joined the event to share her motivations to join the digital reskilling programme.

I want to learn how to conduct data analytics, and assessment and [learn] managerial and financial skills. These skills are essential for a stable and profitable [business]. Creating a business can be a source of income for my family as well as create jobs for other Ukrainians who are struggling to find work. -participant of the training programme

ABOUT THE TRAINING PROGRAMME

“” will train approximately 500 Ukrainian women evacuees in Poland in high-demand digital skills, with the ultimate goal of improving their livelihood potential. The programme will cover topics such as data analytics, web design, cybersecurity and basic data protection, and geographic data analysis.

The programme will run from October 2023 to March 2024 and will be delivered mainly in Ukrainian, free of charge. Participants who earn a UNITAR certificate of completion will receive support in finding IT-related jobs.

The programme is financially supported by the Government and People of Japan. It is run in partnership with Japanese, Polish and Ukrainian organizations including

  • employment agency Pasona Group
  • start-up company Eukarya
  • Ukrainian academic institutions Kyiv Mohyla Academy, Ukrainian Catholic University
  • NGOs in the region, IT Poland Technology Cluster, and Kyiv IT Cluster
  • UNITAR Association
