The NT Labor Government has announced the Territory’s first Disability Advisory Committee.
The inaugural committee is made up of 12 Territorians who will provide a voice for people with disability in the Northern Territory and offer valuable insight and advice to Government on issues of importance.
Minister for Disabilities Natasha Fyles announced the committee’s appointment at a reception celebrating International Day of People with Disability.
The Committee is the first of its kind in the Northern Territory and is made up of exceptionally strong advocates including Indigenous Territorians with disability and people with disability from remote and very remote regions. Over half the committee members have a disability while around one third are carers.
The Committee will support the Territory Government as it works towards embedding the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disability.
This announcement is particularly timely having completed the transition to the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Disability Insurance Scheme in the Northern Territory. The Northern Territory Government continues provide allied health support to individuals who are not eligible for NDIS.

“Insights and experiences of these members will be invaluable to the Northern Territory where their voices have historically had a limited platform – something we are changing through the appointment of these 12 outstanding Territorians.
“I’m looking forward to working with the Committee as we move towards achieving the shared vision of the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Disability Strategy for an inclusive society that enables everyone to fulfil their potential.”
