Disaster Dashboard ready for storm season

Wingecarribee Shire

Wingecarribee Shire Council is reminding residents and visitors that access to real time information on serious incidents and disasters impacting the Shire can be found on the Wingecarribee Disaster Dashboard.

Council’s Disaster Dashboard was one of 27 regional dashboards launched last year with the assistance of Resilience NSW as part of the State Government’s Regional Disaster Preparedness Program.

Council’s General Manager Lisa Miscamble said preparation advice, seasonal awareness of risks and access to timely and accurate information was critical to managing crises.

“Our residents know only too well the impact that emergencies can have on our Shire,” she said. “Over the past two years they’ve faced drought, bushfires, flooding rains and COVID-19.”

“As we head into our annual bushfire and storm season, it’s vitally important we learn how to best prepare and protect ourselves and our families.”

The Wingecarribee Disaster Dashboard is an online warehouse of real-time, local emergency information supported by Resilience NSW with access to live information from multiple agencies including NSW Rural Fire Service, the State Emergency Service, NSW Health and Council.

Ms Miscamble said the promotion of the Disaster dashboard was a key recommendation from the independent review into Council’s response to the 2019/20 Black summer bushfires.

“In the click of a button users can quickly see what’s happening, where and who’s responding,” she said. “Armed with this information residents can better assess the situation and take the appropriate course of action.”

In addition to real-time information the Disaster Dashboard provides advice on emergency preparedness and guidance on recovery assistance available in the aftermath of an emergency.

The Disaster Dashboard also shows the location and status of major Council works including road works, road closures and water outages.

“In the lead up to summer I encourage all residents to take a moment and familiarise themselves with the Wingecarribee Disaster Dashboard,” Ms Miscamble added.

The Wingecarribee Disaster Dashboard is located on the homepage of Wingecarribee Shire Council’s website.
