Premier and Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Jeremy Rockliff, has welcomed the Disney Wonder and all its guests to Tasmania’s shores after it made its first voyage to the State, docking in Hobart today.
The family friendly cruise has eight visits scheduled for Hobart over the summer period.
The Disney Wonder has 11 passenger decks and carries about 2400 passengers and up to 950 crew members. Offerings include rotational dining, Broadway-style shows, themed dining, character encounters and imaginative spaces specially designed for families, kids and adults.
Premier Rockliff said nearly 160 cruise ships are booked to visit Tasmania this season, bringing up to 287,000 passengers and 124,000 crew to our shores.
“The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering on our long-term plan to sustainably grow the State’s tourism industry, including through cruising,” Premier Rockliff said.
“Disney Wonder’s visit is a testament to Tasmania’s appeal as a destination and its growing popularity among domestic and international cruise visitors.
“Cruise shipping plays an important role in Tasmania’s visitor economy, injecting more than $144 million into the State last year and supporting 455 jobs.”
This economic boost is shared across the State with port calls in Hobart, Burnie, and Port Arthur, in addition to some regional ports.
