A disqualified driver has been charged following a police pursuit and crash in the Southern Highlands yesterday.
Just after 4pm (Saturday 13 June 2020), Traffic and Highway Patrol officers stopped a Holden station wagon after it was allegedly detected speeding on the Hume Highway, near Welby.
As police approached the vehicle to speak to the driver, he allegedly drove away.
A pursuit was initiated and continued southbound on the Hume Highway for a short time, before the driver allegedly attempted a U-turn towards northbound lanes and hit a police car.
The driver, a 30-year-old man, was trapped in the vehicle for a short time, before being released and taken to Liverpool Hospital with suspected chest and spinal injuries where he remains under police guard.
His passenger, a 40-year-old man, was taken to Bowral Hospital for observation.
The senior constable driving the police car sustained a hand injury and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
Officers from the Southern Highlands Police District attended and established a crime scene with the Crash Investigation Unit commencing an investigation.
Today (Sunday 14 June 2020), the driver was charged with motor vehicle exceed speed more than 20 km/h, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45 km/h, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period. An outstanding revocation of parole warrant was also executed.
He is expected to appear at Moss Vale Local Court on Tuesday 4 August 2020.
