Northern Territory Police are investigating a number of disturbances in Alice Springs overnight.
At 7:50pm, police responded to reports of a group of people fighting with edged weapons on Coolibah Street, East Side. General duties and Operation Drina members attended with the group fleeing the scene. Eleven edged, two blunt weapons and a firearm were seized by police.
At 9pm, police responded to reports of up to 50 people fighting in a carpark adjacent to Railway Terrace. Police attended and dispersed the crowd. One edged weapon was seized, and a black Holden Commodore was observed leaving the scene.
Also at 9pm, police responded to reports of a group of people fighting on Erumba Street, Braitling. Upon arrival police located 2 males, aged 17 and 18, with lacerations. A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with enquiries. Both injured males were conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital where one fled a short time later and the other underwent emergency surgery.
Acting Commander Kirsten Engels said “These were all incredibly violent incidents that have no place in our community. The behaviour we saw last night was completely unacceptable and it’s disappointing that police resources have been continually drained having to respond them.
“At this stage it is believed both the East Side and Railway Terrace incidents are linked. Investigations are continuing.
