Get your togs and sunscreen out, the Riverway Lagoons are reopening this weekend.
The lagoons were closed after they were damaged during the unprecedented monsoon.
Acting Mayor and Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Cr Les Walker said the opening of the lagoons is a good sign for the recovery of the city.
“The lagoons closure was a massive hit to our residents that used the facility and having it reopen in time for the holidays is another sign of things getting back on track,” Cr Walker said.
“I’m extremely happy with the work done by Hutchinsons to make sure the lagoons are reopened in time for the September school holidays.”
The lagoons reopen on Saturday and temporary change and toilet facilities will be installed for all users.
Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said the installation of wheelchair-friendly facilities played an important role in reopening the lagoons.
“While the lagoons have been repaired and can reopen to the public, the Riverway Arts Centre still has a while to go before it can be opened,” Cr Molachino said.
“To make sure we can get the lagoons open for the holidays we do have wheelchair-accessible toilets and change rooms available for those visiting Riverway during the holidays.
“It’s really great that we were able to get all of this organised and have the lagoons ready for our beautiful spring days – especially while the Tobruk Memorial Baths are being refurbished.”
The toilet facilities will be available from this weekend with the disability-accessible change facilities being installed next week.
