Do you have next biosecurity bright idea?

The Hon David Littleproud MP
Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia
  • Biosecurity Innovation Program expressions of interest process now open.
  • Process open until Friday 3 December 2021.
  • Bright ideas are wanted as the Biosecurity Innovation Program is open for expressions of interest.

Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia, David Littleproud said the program was about finding new ways to create a stronger national biosecurity system.

“Australia exports food, fibre and forestry products to markets all over the world, but our ability to reach these markets hinges on our country remaining disease and pest free,” Minister Littleproud said.

“The Biosecurity Innovation Program is a way to enable our best and brightest to find new ways to keep Australia safe.

“We are looking for ideas that focus on communication and collaboration, automation, data and intelligence, risk analysis, and surveillance, diagnostics and screening.

“The last round of projects that were funded through the program included computer modelling for animal disease outbreaks, screening technologies for detecting plants and seeds in the post and surveillance for feral pigs.

“We’ve got $5.6 million in funding, and we’re keen to see what this round of the program will bring.

“Biosecurity is everyone’s responsibility, and we all have our part to play to keep Australia safe.

“If you have an innovative biosecurity idea on how we can find smarter ways to keep our country disease and pest free, we want to hear from you.”

The Biosecurity Innovation Program is open to the Australian community, innovators, research institutes, start-ups, and industry and will deliver 21 projects in 2021-22.
