The City of Ballarat is calling on all residents to thank an inspirational older person by nominating them for the 2023 Ballarat Senior of the Year Awards.
The awards are City of Ballarat’s way of acknowledging Ballarat residents 55 years and older who give their time and efforts back to the Ballarat community.
For our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents, eligibility commences from 50 years or older.
This year, there are five award categories that each focus on an area of interest as well as the overall Senior of the Year Award:
- Volunteering Award
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award
- Healthy and Active Living Award
- Ageing Well Award
- Senior of the Year Award
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson said the awards were about recognising and acknowledging the valuable contributions older people make to life in Ballarat.
“The exceptional seniors who offer their time and skills to benefit Ballarat residents, and the entire community, are so important to us,” he said.
“About 30 per cent of the Ballarat population is aged 55 or older according to latest census data, and their years of dedication to our city is truly significant.
“There are so many people out there who deserve special recognition so I encourage everyone who knows somebody to get nominating.”
