As stated by acting Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend, Auckland City CIB:
Police are appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying a man in relation to a sexual assault in central Auckland.
The incident occurred on Sunday night at a residential complex on Albert Street.
A male offender has gained entry to the complex and has sexually assault a female resident in a communal area.
Understandably the victim in this matter is incredibly shaken by what has happened and Police are ensuring there are support services engaged for her.
Our enquiries so far have located the offender boarding a bus, route 95B, at 6:50pm on Onewa Road in Birkenhead and disembarking at Britomart at 7.08pm, on Sunday evening.
The man has been in the central city and has eventually ended up at the residential complex on Albert Street, where he has entered the building at around 9.20pm.
Immediately after the incident has occurred, the man has left the area on foot.
There is an investigation underway into this matter, including ongoing CCTV enquiries to identify any further movements the offender has made.
Our priority now is to identify and locate this man. We believe the public will know who this man is and we need to hear from them.
The public may have seen the offender moving around the city immediately after the city and we would ask they contact Police if they have not already spoken to us.
Residents in the central city will in no doubt be concerned by this incident and we would like to reassure them that this matter is being taken extremely seriously.
Police encourage residents to remain vigilant to any suspicious behaviour and to report this to us immediately by calling 111.
As part of this we remind people entering apartment buildings to practise good vigilance in ensuring entry doors close behind you and no one attempts to tail gate you into the building.
