A reminder to everyone who loves a shopping trip to the Byron Farmers Market that from next week (11 July 2019) the Farmers Markets will be held at the Cavanbah Centre on Ewingsdale Road for six months.
The temporary relocation is necessary as work starts on the Byron Bay bypass and the bus interchange on Butler Street.
Council staff have been working with the market organisers for several months to prepare for the move, and to let the community know what is happening and Byron Shire Mayor, Simon Richardson, said he hopes that people will continue to support the Farmers Market in its new temporary location.
“The Cavanbah Centre is on Ewingsdale Road and there is a cycle path leading straight there so I’m hoping people will jump on their bikes and ride out to the Farmers Market,” he said.
“There’s also plenty of free parking for those who drive, and the farmers market is putting on a free shuttle bus in and out of town to the Cav for those who usually walk to the market.
“I know the Farmers Market Manager Tom and his team have been working really hard to promote the new location and I am hoping that market-goers will embrace this slight change to their weekly routine and continue to support our local farmers,” Mayor Richardson said.
The only change to the market will be the venue – people will still find all the regular farmers and stall holders every Thursday from 7-11am.
“This is also a great opportunity for people who work in the Arts and Industry Estate or for people who normally wouldn’t stop for the markets to drop in and have a look around,” Mayor Richardson said.
The Byron Farmers Market will move back to the Butler Street Reserve in January 2020.
