With the severe weather season upon us, the City is reminding residents to include their beloved pets in their emergency and evacuation plan.
The Gold Coast’s Get Ready campaign launched recently, with predictions of drier than average weather this summer and an increased risk of bush and grass fires.
“In emergency situations, pets are often the most vulnerable member of the family, so it’s important to consider what will happen to them in the event of a natural disaster,” said Mayor Tom Tate.
“All pet owners need to think about what plans need to be put in place to make sure all our beloved pets are cared for if we are unable to get home.
“Also, it’s important to think about what you would need to do in case of an evacuation.”
Gold Coasters are urged to get an emergency and evacuation plan prepared, to save valuable time if anything does go wrong.
The plan should be tailored to include the number of animals and type of pets you have.
- Who can look after your pets if they can’t be with you?
- Consideration of transport options for your pets, especially livestock
- Have your pets microchipped and registered with City of Gold Coast
- Make sure they are wearing a collar with up-to-date contact information
