Residents can now pay for the exact number of minutes they park in the CBD, straight from their phone.
After a successful roll out in Council’s paid off-street car parks, the EasyPark app will now be available for on-street parking throughout the city centre.
Drivers using EasyPark start and end their parking session on their phone, creating an exact payment, rather than guessing how long they may need and paying extra if they finish their lunch, shopping or business sooner than expected.
Mayor Bob Manning said app users will also enjoy the benefit of paying from the comfort of their vehicle, rather than dodging puddles or the midday sun to use a Pay & Display machine and place the ticket on their windscreen.
“Paid parking is necessary to ensure a good turnover of vehicles in the CBD to give everyone fair access to shops, dining and services,” Cr Manning said.
“But, of course, no one likes to have to pay for parking. If the uptake of the app in our off- street car parks is any indication, drivers appreciate that EasyPark gives them greater control over their parking fees.”
When drivers register for EasyPark, their vehicle and payment details are entered into the app. These details are then recorded in Council’s enforcement software so parking officers can quickly see if EasyPark is being used.
Each app transaction includes a 10% service fee collected in full by EasyPark.
While EasyPark does make parking easier, drivers are reminded that they must still abide by parking time limits – the app won’t accept parking payments beyond the signposted time limit.
Normal rules also apply to disability, taxi, loading, no standing and bus bays.
Drivers can continue to pay for parking using cash or credit card at any Pay & Display machine and place their ticket on their dashboard.
